Full-Size Capability with the Toyota Tundra

For full-size capabilities you can count on, consider the Toyota Tundra. This pickup is nothing but reliable, with more than 90 percent of Tundras sold within the past 15 years still on the road today. The Tundra has been awarded for its resale and retained value, giving you even more confidence in your decision to buy this pickup. When you choose to get the Tundra, you will have six trim levels to choose from, along with multiple engines, drivetrains, truck bed lengths, and cabin styles. With so much customization even before you look at accessories, you are guaranteed to get the Tundra that is right for your needs.

Those planning to go off-road regularly will want to consider the Tundra TRD Pro with its off-road wheels and tires, heavy-duty skid plate, Bilstein shocks, and TRD-tuned exhaust. Of course, any Tundra with 4×4 will be able to handle the occasional off-road adventure with ease. The Tundra is also ready to tow more than 10,500 pounds or keep thousands of pounds of cargo organized in the truck bed with the deck rail system and its adjustable tie-down cleats rated at 220 pounds each. Those looking for a daily vehicle will appreciate the LATCH system, Entune audio, and available leather of the Tundra.

A Brief Look at the New 2018 Toyota Tundra

Although changes are minimal for the 2018 Toyota Tundra, they are still worth noting. The 2018 Tundra receives minor front-end updates and standard active safety equipment. Depending on your choice of trim, there are new grilles such as the billet-style and honeycomb version. The Tundra has updated exterior lighting, with certain models getting the LED treatment. The most noteworthy addition is the Toyota Safety Sense. This suite of advanced safety assists includes forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and much more.

The Tundra has two V-8 choices: The base engine is a 4.6-liter that makes 310hp and the optional 5.7-liter V-8 that makes 381hp. Rear-wheel drive is standard and four-wheel drive is optional for both setups, but not for all cab-and-bed configurations. The cabin is spacious and the rear seating is roomy. With comfortable seats, you’re sure to enjoy the ride in your new 2018 Toyota Tundra!

How the Tundra Came to Be

The Toyota Tundra debuted in 1999 in the form of a 2000 model. It was a bit larger than the T100 it replaced and had the biggest initial vehicle sales of any Toyota up to that time. It was offered with a 3.4-liter V6 or a 4.7-liter V8, with a TRD supercharger offered for the V6 from the start and the V8 the following year. The Double Cab joined the lineup in 2004, a year after some updates to the grille. 2005 saw a new 4-liter V6 engine and updates to the existing V8 that included variable valve timing technology. This year also saw the 5-speed manual become a 6-speed and the 4-speed automatic become a 5-speed. At the end of the first generation, the Toyota Tundra could tow between 6,900 and 7,100 pounds, depending on the configuration.

Toyota showed off the second-generation Tundra during the 2006 Chicago Auto Show, complete with styling cues from the midsize Tacoma and the Toyota FTX concept. It stood out with fenders that bulged out in a way that resembled biceps. The towing capacity increased to over 10,000 pounds, while the payload passed 2,000. There was a new 5.7-liter V8 with a 6-speed automatic, while the 4.7-liter V8 and 4-liter V6 carried over. When this Tundra became available in 2007, it had 31 different configurations between the wheelbases, transmissions, cabs, and bed lengths. Toyota made adjustments that helped construction workers, like the deck rail system, headrests that accommodate a hard hat, and the integrated tow hitch. It also added features like Bluetooth, a bigger center console, and a backup camera.
